Roads are good on the whole and traffic is light. Police and military roadblocks are common; you may need to show your passport, driving licence and/or vehicle registration and explain your reason for travelling.

Not all roads are paved, although the majority are.
Car Hire
You can hire cars in Malabo and Bata, but it's expensive.
Taxi
Bush taxis connect Malabo with the island's two other main towns, Luba and Riaba, and also run from Bata to Mongomo and Ebebiyin; they can be hired hourly or daily.
Rail
Water
There is a ferry between Malabo, Bata and Douala. The trip takes about 12 hours.
