Driving directions:

The 30-minute drive from George Town centre to Penang International Airport is relatively simple. Get on Route 6, follow it to Bayan Lepas and follow signs for the airport.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: Buses run by Rapid Penang (tel: +604 238 1212; www.rapidpg.com.my) are frequent and extensive, covering almost every destination in Penang. Bus numbers 401, 401A and 401E all connect the airport to the capital Georgetown in the north of the state as well as Komtar and the jetty, where ferries are available to Butterworth, a transport hub on the mainland. The fare from the airport to George Town is around RM2.70 and should take roughly 1 hour.

Taxi: The taxi service from Penang International Airport is cheap and reliable. A voucher system with fixed prices for specific destinations is used. Passengers need to buy a voucher at the taxi counter in the terminal building and then present the voucher at the taxi rank outside where they will be assigned a taxi. The trip to George Town will cost roughly RM40 although there is a 50% surcharge from midnight until 0600.

Restaurants, fast food places, and cafes offering both local and international food are located in the terminal building.

Shopping:

There are a number of duty-free shops at Penang International Airport, as well as a gift shop and several newsagents.

For lost luggage items, visit the information desk on the ground floor or contact the Security Operations Centre (tel: +60 4 252 0278). There are no luggage lockers at Penang International Airport.

Other:

A first aid service is available in the terminal building. A children’s playground is located at domestic departure, and a baby care room is on level 2 of the Public Concourse. A Muslim prayer room and a smoking lounge are available in both departure terminals.

Conference and business:

A VIP lounge and a business centre with a fax machine, Wi-Fi and telephones are located in the terminal building. The closest conference and meeting facilities are available at the Hotel Equatorial (tel: +60 4 632 7000; penang.equatorial.com).

Communication Facilities:

Postal services are offered in one of the shops in the terminal building. Wi-Fi internet access is available, and there is a charging station at both the international and domestic departures.

Disabled facilities:

Accessibility is good at Penang International Airport. There are toilets for wheelchair users, lifts up to the departure area on the first floor, and reserved parking spaces in the car parks.

Car parking:

Both long and short-term parking is available at Penang International Airport, with more than 600 parking spaces.

Car rental:

Car hire companies at Penang International Airport include Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Auto Europe, along with a number of local operators. Passengers wishing to book in advance should look at each company’s respective website.
