Edinburgh has a temperate maritime climate characterised by mild winters and moderate summers.
The highs of the summer months are usually 19 ºC (66 ºF), while the winters mostly see temperatures around 5ºC (34 ºF) with frequent precipitation. The best time to visit Edinburgh depends very much on what you want to do while you are there. August is Festival month, so the city is crammed with people from all over the world and the atmosphere is vibrant and exciting. The same is true at Hogmanay, when the city centre is full of New Year revellers. If you want peace and quiet to explore Edinburgh's sights, these times of year are best avoided.
May and June are always nice months to visit Scotland, with long hours of daylight and often less rain than at other times of year.
