Summer is the best time to visit Gothenburg, and consequently the most popular. Although this is southern Sweden, the days are noticeably longer, and it’s more likely to be mild and sunny. This allows visitors to sit outside in the evening and join locals in enjoying an alfresco meal or drink. Bear in mind though that, as in Stockholm, many restaurants close for the duration of the summer holiday (usually mid-June to mid-August), so if you’re visiting Gothenburg to experience the city’s excellent dining scene, other seasons are usually a better bet.
