Shopping in Qatar
There's undoubtedly a massive shopping culture evident in some of Doha's enormous malls. For high-end couture, the Villaggio Mall on Al Waab Street is the place to shop. This place also offers gondola rides, an IMAX theatre and an ice rink. The City Centre Mall on 4th Street is another vast space that offers western and Arabic chains.
Doha's central market, Souq Waqif, is probably the best place for souvenirs and regional specialities. Items that make great gifts include carpets, Bedouin weaving, Arabic coffee pots, incense burner, prayer beads, as well as regional art and handicrafts. Even if you don't like to shop, it is worth making a trip here for its many restaurants and coffee shops.
Shopping hours
Generally Sat-Thu 1000 to 1200 and 1600 to 2000 or later. Some major malls operate from 1000 to 2200 daily but have a prayer break between 1100-1300 on Friday.
Nightlife in Qatar
Many of Doha's luxury hotels also act as nightlife venues. Crystal Lounge at W Doha is the hippest place. For something mellower, the Lincoln Centre at St Regis and the Jazz Club at Oryx Rotana are top choices. The Katara Cultural Village (www.katara.net) also hosts concerts, shows, exhibitions, as well as indoor and outdoor film screenings.
