Beyond Eilat
Strategically located, Eilat provides easy access to the Arava Valley, the heart of the mighty Negev desert. Popular day trips from Eilat include a camel ride to the Eilat Mountains Nature Reserve and a safari trip to Timna.
The distance from Eilat to the Dead Sea is about 200km (124 miles), 2 hours 15 minutes by car. You can definitely make a day trip to the Dead Sea, though you may want to spend more time around the area and visit stunning sights. Make sure you visit the ancient fortress of Masada and experience the way of life at modest kibbutzim (collective communities) dotted around the valley.
It is also possible to make a day trip to Petra in Jordan – a rust-red city hewn from solid rock. Citizens of many nations are required to have a visa to enter Jordan. Obtain one before your trip since the Wadi Araba Crossing no longer issues visa on arrival. There are some exceptions though, so check with a tour operator in Eilat.
