About Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX)

Thailand’s fourth busiest airport is located 4km (2.5 miles) southwest of downtown Chiang Mai and acts a gateway to Northern Thailand. The airport mainly serves destinations across Southeast Asia. Driving directions:

From Chiang Mai, take Route 4032 before joining Route 1141. Follow the airport sign. The journey time is about 10 minutes. 

Transfer between terminals:

Both the international and domestic terminals are located in the same building.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: Shared minibus taxis known as songthaews are available outside the airport gates to take you to your destination for 40 Baht. You can have an entire songthaew to yourself for 200 Baht.

Taxi: Taxi booking desks are located on the first floor of the terminal building. There are two taxi companies available. Chiang Mai Airport Taxi charges a flat rate of 150 Baht to all destinations in the city. Taxi Meter charges around 100-120 Baht with an additional airport service charge of 50 Baht.

Tuk Tuks are also available outside the terminal building. Be prepared to bargain. The ride from the airport to downtown is around 100-150 Baht. 

Terminal facilities

Money:

There are several currency exchange facilities in both terminals. ATMs, including one from ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China), are also available in the departures and arrival areas.
 

Food:

Several restaurants are available in the public zones of the terminals as well as some cafes and fast food outlets past security (open 0600-0000).
 

Shopping:

Convenience stores, book shops, souvenir retailers and fashion/ accessory shops are located at the airport. Duty-free shopping is available on the second floor of the international terminal after check-in.
 

Luggage:

Left-luggage facilities are available in the international terminal. A lost property service is also in operation (tel: +66 53 270 222). 

Other:

Other available facilities at Chiang Mai international include an airport prayer room and baby changing facilities. 

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

There are several lounges operated by airlines which offer basic meeting facilities. For a proper business conference facility, Le Méridien Hotel (tel: +66 5325 3666; www.lemeridienchiangmai.com/) is 5km (3 miles) away. 

Communication Facilities:

Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the airport with the first 120 minutes of use is free of charge. There are also spots to buy mobile phones/sim cards at the airport on the first floor of the international and domestic terminals. Public telephones are located throughout the airport. The post service is located on the first floor at domestic arrivals hall (open 0830- 2000). 

Disabled facilities:

The facilities are basic – there are ramps, lifts and disabled toilets, while wheelchair assistance and help with baggage are also available on request. Contact the airport service (tel: +66 53 270 222) or your airline for specific assistance.

 

Car parking:

Short stay parking is available in front of the terminal building. Parking fee is charged on an hourly basis. Overnight parking is available.

 

Car rental:

Car hire companies represented at Chiang Mai International Airport include Avis, Budget, Hertz, National and Sixt.
