About BER Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

Airport news:

Berlin Brandenburg BER Airport was opened on 31 October 2020.

The BER Airport absorbed the Schönefeld SXF Airport on the northern edge and renamed it Terminal 5 or T5. In other words, SXF has ceased to exist and is replaced by BER.

From 23rd of February 2021, T5 will be temporarily closed due to low passenger numbers.

Information:

The airport information desks (tel: +49 30 6091 60910) are available at various locations, including in the check-in areas 1-8 (T1), the departures area on level E1 (T1), the departures area at gate C02 on level E2 (T1) and the arrivals area on level E0 (T5). Opening hours vary according to flight schedules.

Tourist information points for Berlin and Brandenburg are located in the arrivals areas (T1), and in the arrival areas L on level E0 (T5).

Driving directions:

The Berlin Brandenburg BER Airport is located in the southeast of Berlin and can be reached via the A113 and the B96a and following the airport sign.

Directions to T1/T2: Motorway A113, follow the signs "Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg" (Berlin Brandenburg Airport). The GPS address is Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg, Willy-Brandt-Platz, 12529 Schönefeld.

Directions to T5: Leave the A113 motorway at the "Schönefeld-Süd" exit or take the B96a road directly to T5. The GPS address is Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg, Terminal 5, 12529 Schönefeld.

Transfer between terminals:

Public transport is available for a transfer between T1/T2 and T5. Travellers can use the S-Bahn lines S9 and S45 and bus lines X7, X71 and BER2.

The airport train station of T1 and T2 is located directly below T1. The airport train station of T5 is about a five-minute walk from T5. The suburban trains S9 and S45 connecting T1/T2 and T5 run every 20 minutes. Travel time: 8 minutes.

The bus lines X7, X71 and BER2 run between T1/T2 and T5 every 40 minutes. Travel time, including the walk to the bus stop, is about 9 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: T1/2: The express busses X7 and X71 connect the final stop of the U7 (U-Bahn station Rudow) with T1 in a close interval (travel time: 18 minutes). The express bus BER1 commutes hourly between T1 and Steglitz City Hall, while the express bus BER2 commutes 15 times a day between T1 and Potsdam Central Station.

T5: The express busses X7 and X71 connect T5 with the U-Bahn station Rudow every 5-20 minutes. The express bus BER2 commutes 15 times a day between T5 and Potsdam Central Station. The bus lines 163 (S Schöneweide), 164 (S Köpenick), 171 (U Hermannplatz), 744 (Gropiusstadt) connect T5 with various parts of Berlin.

Taxi: Taxis are available in front of the terminals.

T1/T2: Taxis are located at the taxi stands North and South in front of T1 on level E0. Depending on the traffic situation, the journey to the city centre takes 30 to 50 minutes.

T5: Taxis are located at the taxi stands in front of the terminal area L.

Airport VIP service and chauffeur-driven limousines are provided by BERO BERLIN (Tel: +49 30 456 1111; bero-berlin.de/en).

Public transport rail:

Rail: T1/T2: Long-distance trains stop exclusively at the airport railway station "Flughafen BER - Terminal 1-2". The airport railway station is located directly under T1. The regional trains RE7 and RB14 run four times an hour between the airport railway station and Berlin Central Station (journey time: 30 minutes).

T5: Between 0300 and 2400, regional trains (Flughafen-Express FEX) run twice an hour between the airport train station "BER - Terminal 5" and Berlin Central Station (journey time: 30 minutes). The regional train RB 22 also commutes hourly between T5 and Potsdam.

S-Bahn: The suburban trains S9 and S45 stop at both airport stations (T1/T2 and T5), and connect them every 20 minutes (travel time: 8 minutes). The S9 goes to Spandau and the S45 to Südkreuz.

Terminal facilities

Money:

T1/T2: Money exchange offices are located in the arrivals area (Arrival 1, Baggage Claim A1-A4, Baggage Claim B1-B4) and the departures area (Market Place). ATM machines are located in the arrivals area (Baggage Claim B1-B4) and the departures area (Market Place).

T5: Money exchange services are located in Section L (Gate L2, baggage claim and the arrivals area). ATM machines are located in Section M (arrivals and baggage claim). A Reisebank is also located in Section M (arrivals).

Food:

T1/T2: There is a wide range of bars, cafés, restaurants, especially at the departure areas. You can also find a food court on level E2.

T5: Sections K, L, M offer a good range of cafés, fast food chains and restaurants, plus a snack station outside Section M (departures area).

Shopping:

T1: T1 has about 40 shops, selling books, flowers, toys, souvenirs, fashion and duty-free items. Many of the shops and restaurants are located in the Market Place, a 9,000 sqm (96,875 sqft) retail haven, which is right after security.

T5: There are numerous shops (travel agencies, newspaper stands, bookstores, convenience shops), as well as duty-free shops and small supermarkets after security.

Luggage:

T1: Baggage storage, baggage wrapping, and a portal service are all located on the distribution level, near the train station of T1/T2.

T5: There is a baggage storage area in the terminal area M Arrivals.

Other:

T1: Lost and found (Baggage Claim A1-A4), pharmacies (Market Place and Arrival 2) and shower service (Arrival 1/2).

T5: Lost and found (Section L, check-in areas).

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

T1: Airport lounges are located at the departures area (Gates A20 and B17). In addition, just outside of T1 is Willy-Brandt-Platz, home to a Regus Business Center and the Steigenberger Airport Hotel (with 11 meeting rooms).

T5: Just 500m (547 yards) away from T5 is the IntercityHotel Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, which has six conference rooms.

Communication Facilities:

A postal service, along with a fax and copy service, is located near the T1/T2 train station on the U1 distribution level.

Disabled facilities:

Barrier-free parking spaces are available in all multi-storey car parks and short-term parking areas. All terminals are equipped with barrier-free toilets and lifts. Wheelchairs are provided by the airlines on request. Persons requiring assistance at the airport should inform their airline at least 48 hours in advance.

T1/2: Free Mobility Service staff are available in check-in areas 1-8 on level E1 and in the Market Place.

Car parking:

T1: A short-term parking is outside of T1. Furthermore, car parks P1, P2, P3, P7 and P8 are all nearby; each sits at a distance between 100m (109 yards) and 200m (219 yards) from the terminal respectively. Car parks P4 and P6 are further away, at a distance between 400m (437 yards) to 500m (547 yards).

T5: Car parks P51, P52, P54, P56 are nearby, with P52 being the nearest at just 70m (77 yards) away.

Car rental:

T1: Car rental companies include Avis Budget, Buchbinder Rent-a-Car, Europcar, Enterprise rent-a-car, Hertz and Sixt. The car rental counters are located in the arrivals area of T1 on level E0.

T5: Car rental companies include Avis Budget, Buchbinder Rent-a-car, Europcar, Enterprise rent-a-car, Hertz and Sixt. The car hire centre is located outside T5 on level E0.
