Summer is a lively time with pilgrims and tourists thronging Santiago, particularly around the end of July, when things get quite crowded. However, it's worth visiting the city when the students are in town (they're on holiday from late June to early September), as they provide much of the local atmosphere. Santiago's high rainfall means that, unlike in other parts of Spain, good weather is far from guaranteed in spring and autumn, and the city can be a little miserable in winter.
