Fallas de València
Every year, Valencia kicks start the Fallas celebrations in February but the main events take place from 15 – 19 March when giant papier-mâché figures (known as ninots) are paraded across the city. On the last day, these figures are burnt to honour San José (St Joseph), the patron saint of carpenters.

Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians)
Towns and cities across the region of Valencia celebrate this festival with parades, re-enactments, and theatrical performances commemorating the battles of the Reconquista.

La Noche de San Juan
Beachfront bonfires and fireworks celebrate the night of San Juan.

Gran Feria de Valencia
Since 1871, the Great Valencia Fair has been taking place every July with a string of concerts, exhibitions, parades and firework displays. Highlights include La Gran Nit de Juliol (on the second to last Saturday) and the Battle of Flowers (on the last Sunday).

La Tomatina
The tomato fight started among children in 1945 has propelled into an international event today. Messy but fun, this festival takes place in Buñol, about 40km (25mi) west of Valencia, on the last Wednesday in August.
